FAERIECON 2007 UPDATE - WEEKEND ATTENDANCE NEARS 8000!

FAERIECON celebrated as a "beautiful... magical... amazing experience."

Even as FaerieCon 2007 recedes into the faerie mists of cherished memory, the producers want to thank each and every one of our guests for making of first East Coast show such a big success! We are happy to report that we hosted almost 8000 guests over the three days, with the unprecedented achievement of attracting a bigger Sunday walkup attendance than Saturday, something that a rare few - if any - conventions ever achieve.

Clear FaerieCon highlights were the quality, diversity and beauty of the vendor's products, the variety and accessibility of our guest artists and writers and the quality and depth of our presentations and panels. Many guests commented on the the "beautiful, happy, peaceful energy of the room."

All of our Artist and Writer Guests were very popular and enjoyed long lines at their booths. As Guests of Honor, Brian & Wendy Froud were especially in demand and thank of of you who waited so patiently in line to meet them. Our Panels and Presentations received much praise, fans especially enjoyed the opportunity to hear the artists talk so personally and to each other about their art and Faerie.

The Faerie Fashion Show was immensely popular, featuring both professional designers and FaerieCon guests: our sincere thanks to everyone who participated. The response to the show was so positive that will be be making it a main feature of FaerieCon next year.

For those lucky enough to attend, the two Masquerade Balls were clearly the highlight of FaerieCon. The response to them was without exception extraordinary. These were full blown, rocking party events: the costumes were magnificent, the bands amazing: wonderful entrancing performances by Estampie, Woodland and Scott Huckabay and a stunningly, jaw dropping epic performance at the Bad Faeries Ball by Qntal!. Brian Froud's new lightshows were captivating as was the lighting and special effects: nothing more magical than faerie music in a swirling snowstorm! And everyone enjoyed the Trocadero - and its wonderful bar! We now have a new saying: "What happens at the Bad Faeries Ball, stays at the Bad Faeries Ball!." Nuff said!

But more than anything else, it is YOU who made FaerieCon so special: it is the exceptional care you take to create such beautiful, magical faerie garb, your love and patronage of art, crafts, jewelry, clothing and music and foremost your celebration of Faerie as a vibrant, transformational way of life that is so exciting and motivating to us!

We are currently planning Faerieworlds and FaerieCon for 2008: Inspired by you and your support, both events will be taking dramatic steps forward next year with more amazing vendors, artists, performers and storytellers, bigger stage shows, event exclusive publications and amazing new bands. If you have not done so already, sign up on our mailing list so you can receive all updates and special advance offers.

Celebrate the magical Life!

FAERIE CON PROGRAMMING:

These exciting, informative and inspiring panels will include various presenters drawn from our international list of Featured Faerie Artists and Authors. Join us for some "faerie stimulating" presentations and conversations!

Nature As Spirit — Shamanism, Faerie Visions, and the Animate World
We'll explore traditions of faeries and nature spirits from around the world, and the vitality and commonality of faerie beliefs in ancient and modern global cultures.

Faerie in Literature and Art
A look at the presence of Faerie and faeries in art, ranging from early literary works (Chaucer, The Gawain Poet, Shakespeare, the literary fairy tales of Italy and France, Victorian fairy art, etc.) to contemporary artists working within this tradition today.

Hearth and Heart—The Lore of Hospitality
In many ancient tales, the hearth is presented as the most important place in the house, the locus of magic and wonder, the place where relationships with Faeries are forged (and sometimes broken). We'll share the lore of the hearth and discuss ways we can make our own homes welcoming to our Good Neighbors.

Faerie Goes Downtown—The Urbanization of the Otherworld
Faeries are not just for forests and fields anymore: a revealing look at the presence of faeries in the modern urban landscape.

Adapting the Otherworld—Using faerie lore, myths, and fairy tales in children's literature
An exploration and discussion about how ancient faerie myth and folklore inspire and inform modern fiction.

The Song of Enchantment —Faerie & Magic in Traditional to neo-Medieval Music
Join the members of celebrated German bands Estampie and Qntal, and Celtic scholar and singer Caitlin Matthews, NPR's Sound and Spirit host Ellen Kushner and Emilio Miller-Lopez of Woodland in discussion about the presence of Faerie and wonder in the roots of traditional and modern music. Moderated by Stephen Winick, a Library of Congress folklorist and Dirty Linen columnist.

Tarot, Divination, Hallows, and Talismans
Faerie has always been a world that exists in the past, present and future simultaneously. As such, its denizens have traditionally been consulted for clues about our pasts and our futures. Various divinatory traditions will be discussed, as will the hallowed acts of making and using talismans, charms and divinatory devices to help bring Otherworldly assistance and protection.
