WOODLAND Emerging from the misty old-growth forests of America's Pacific northwest, Woodland is a mythic music ensemble featuring the original songwriting and poetic harmonies of Emilio and Kelly Miller-Lopez. For more than 9 years Woodland has been enchanting audiences throughout the US and Europe with a unique blend of original and traditional melodies woven with meaningful bardic poetry.Woodland has been working with Imaginsos and UK artists Brian and Wendy Froud for the past decade, creating immersive events and festivals and masquerades across America.
Woodland's music features a variety of folk and electric instrumentation combined with the sensibilities of an American improvisational festival rock band. Lead vocalist Kelly Miller-Lopez is featured on the harp, flutes, percussion, and chief songwriter Emilio Miller-Lopez is featured on guitar and harmony vocals. Fiddler Kimmy Smith brings traditional reel and jig arrangements to the repertoire, while enhancing the counterpoint melodic tonality of the groups original compositions. Woodland also features an electric rhythm section comprised of bassist and didjeridu player Donald Brodsky and drummer/percussionst Jarrod Kaplan (of Cirque Du Soleil and Trillian Green fame). Woodland's set will also feature guest appearances by Priscilla Hernandez and Hector Corcin of Barcelona, Spain.
Woodland concerts are "immersive" live experiences, which feature the bands enchanting mix of live improvisation and ornate song structure, performed for a devoted fanbase who arrive at their shows dressed in full faerie regalia. Woodland's self-produced masquerades and Faerieworlds events have been hugely successful for five years, with attendance between 500-12,000 per event. Woodland has performed and headlined at events including The Labyrinth Masquerade in Los Angeles, An Evening in Elfland in Glastonbury UK, Earthdance near San Francisco, The Witches Ball in London, The Oregon Country Fair, The Fairy Ball in Cornwall, England, The Good Faeries / Bad Faeries Masquerades on both coasts, FaerieCon in Philadelphia and the Faerieworlds festivals in Sedona, Santa Fe, Los Angeles and Oregon.
The band has shared the stage at events with world-renowned artists including Qntal, Solas, Johnny Cunningham, Priscilla Hernandez, Susan McKeown, Trillian Green, Rasputina, Brother, Casey Neill, Phil Cunningham, Kevin Burke and more. TELESMA Blending ancient and modern instrumentation and spirit, the Baltimore-based group Telesma bridges the gap between primal and futuristic. Setting themselves apart with their intoxicating sound and extraordinary live performances, they take the audience on a soul inspiring journey that transcends this world, tantalizes the senses, and moves the body with waves of pulsating rhythm. Telesma’s unique sound, oft labeled “electro-acoustic psychedelic world dance music”, is driven by the ancient sound of the didgeridoo, the kubing (bamboos mouth harp), tribal drums and percussion, and the human voice. These elements are fused with modern instruments and technology to create a diverse sound ranging from intense polyrhythmic rock-n-roll, to ambient melodic meanderings, to trance-like pulses found in modern electronic dance/groove music. Themes of higher consciousness, philosophy, connectivity, peace, and universal archetypes merge with influences from folklore, various mythologies and religion, nature, fantasy, art, and other mystical elements to create the root of Telesma’s inspirational message.

Telling a story is sometimes like weaving a spell.  Images and concepts wrapped in rhyme and rhythm are a gift to the imagination.  SJ Tucker specializes in such magic, enfolded and delivered in folk rock mythpunk music that moves the body and soul. Joined by cellist Betsy Tinney at FairieCon 2009 and thus performing as Skinny White Chick, this pixie-pirate minstrel opens the masquerade ball on Good Faeries night.
You may know SJ Tucker as the mastermind behind Tricky Pixie or as the inspiration and beneficiary of the Ravens in the Library anthology, featuring short fiction contributions by Holly Black, Charles de Lint, Ari Berk, and Neil Gaiman, and artwork by Theo Black and Amy Brown. Tucker is guest of honor at a variety of upcoming and recent fandom conventions (including Arisia 2010).  SJ Tucker is perhaps best known as the composer of The Wendy Trilogy, wherein Wendy Darling of the Peter Pan story inherits Captain Hook's ship and founds the Lost Girls Pirate Academy.
Beyond these considerable credentials, and with a collective discography of five studio albums, three live albums, and two book soundtracks, SJ Tucker has built an international fanbase around her mythic- and folklore-inspired songwriting and her captivating live performances. This long-time featured performer at FaerieWorlds Festivals and Masquerade Balls is overjoyed to have this inaugural showcase at FaerieCon 2009.
